Lifestyle Medicine For Cancer

I began my journey as a kickboxing athlete and my dream of improving my own performance and becoming a coach lead me to enroll in an exercise science Bachelor’s program in Greece. That’s where I discovered science, and after completing my first research study for my Bachelor’s thesis on plyometric training, I applied and got a scholarship to perform a Master’s Degree in Biomedicine in Sweden. Following that, I worked as a laboratory assistant conducting studies in human performance and exercise physiology, which allowed me to win a prestigious scholarship and travel to Australia to pursue my PhD. My research focused on deeply understanding the muscle and connective tissue, discovering what stimuli build strength, power, and muscle mass in the most effective and efficient ways.
Following my PhD, due to my expertise in building muscle and strength through low-effort exercise, I was invited to research men with prostate cancer undergoing androgen deprivation therapy in the Exercise Medicine Research Institute, an Australian center of research excellence in prostate cancer survivorship. My Post-Doc research was on helping men with prostate cancer starting ADT retain, and even build muscle and strength despite not having testosterone. This experience changed my life. I witnessed how exercise and nutrition transformed their health, strength, confidence, and emotional resilience during cancer. Their heartfelt gratitude and the impact on their lives made me realize and feel that this was my true calling.
From that moment, I shifted my focus to helping people with cancer. I went into clinical trials in different stage IV cancers (breast, pancreatic, bowel, lung, head and neck, squamous-cell skin cancer and more) and deepened my understanding of how exercise and nutrition could reduce side effects, enhance treatment success, and restore vitality.
Today, my purpose is to guide people during their cancer journey, helping them feel stronger, healthier, and more in control, both during treatment and beyond, through evidence-based strategies. I want to empower them to live with vitality, resilience, and hope.
I am a faculty member at Edith Cowan University. You can find my published research by clicking here.
